Kabale Uganda – Police in Kabale District have launched a manhunt for Tumuhereze Maritazari, a male adult accused of gruesomely murdering his five-year-old biological son, Turyasingura Remegio.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, 26th April 2025, at around 8:00 PM at Kasiru Village, Nyombe Parish, Kahungye Sub-county.
According to police reports, earlier that day at around 2:00 PM, Tumuhereze reportedly got into a heated argument with his wife, Tumwebaze Agnes, at Kasiru Trading Centre.
The disagreement stemmed from Tumuhereze’s suspicion that Agnes had conceived the child with another man during his seven-year absence.
Following the altercation, during which he assaulted Agnes at a bar owned by one Rogers and again at her mother’s home, Tumuhereze proceeded to his residence alone.
Upon reaching home, he allegedly picked up a panga (machete), brutally hacked the child to death, and fled the scene.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He said that upon receiving the information, a case of murder was registered at Kahungye Police Station.
The Kabale homicide team, under the command of D/IP Barijunaki Samuel, the Acting District Criminal Investigations Officer (D/CID/O) for Kabale, visited the scene, examined and documented the crime, and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
The child’s body was also examined at the scene.
Maate told our reporter that Investigations are ongoing with efforts to apprehend the suspect in high gear.
He urged anyone with information about Tumuhereze Maritazari’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
