KABALE –The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, the Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, has called on Christians to embody humility, compassion, love, and tenderness in their daily lives, taking inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Bishop Akanjuna made the remarks on Friday the 11th of April 2025, while officiating the commissioning of a newly installed 190 million digital X-ray scan machine at the hospital, located in the northern division of Kabale Municipality. The equipment was acquired through a partnership between Rugarama Hospital and a medical mission team from Germany.
He underscored the transformative power of selflessness, emphasizing that it is a cornerstone of strong families, cohesive communities, and individual well-being. He warned that selfishness poses a serious threat to the social fabric, leading to the disintegration of homes, strained relationships, and isolated lives.
The prelate stressed that love and tenderness are not signs of weakness, but of strength and spiritual maturity. He encouraged the faithful to look beyond their own needs and embrace a life of service and empathy.
The bishop further lauded the hospital management and its partners for their commitment to improving healthcare services in the region, noting that the new X-Ray scan will significantly enhance diagnostic capabilities at the facility.

Dr. Kevin Akampurira Muheru, the Superintendent of Rugarama Hospital, stated that the new X-Ray scan machine will significantly enhance patient care due to its digital capabilities. He emphasized that patients will benefit from faster imaging modalities, which will not only reduce waiting times but also allow for quicker diagnosis and treatment.
Furthermore, Dr. Muheru noted that the digital nature of the machine enables patients to store their medical images for extended periods, making future consultations and referrals more efficient.

He also pointed out that the X-rays scanner’s speed in processing images will free up laboratory staff, allowing them to attend to more patients in less time and improve overall workflow within the facility.
Dr. Gilbert Mateka, the Kabale District Health Officer, stated that the newly installed X-Ray scan machine is expected to significantly reduce the need for patients to travel long distances in search of specialized imaging services.
He emphasized that the availability of this equipment will contribute to quicker, more accurate diagnoses and more timely treatment, ultimately improving patient outcomes. He expressed his gratitude to the Diocese of Kigezi and the hospital administration for their outstanding efforts and commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery in the region.
